new step by step L2TP VPN CONNECTION

Set up the L2TP VPN connection on Windows XP

  1. This step-by-step tutorial shows how to setup a L2TP connection on Windows XP and start using ibVPN servers.
Step 1. Open Start and select Control Panel.
Step 2. Select Switch to Category View if control panel is not set to Category View.

Step 3.
 Select Network and Internet Connections.

Step 4.
 Select Create a connection to the network at your workplace.

Step 5.
 Select Connect to a Virtual Private Network (VPN) and click Next.

 Fill in the field Company Name with FUKhan VPN and click Next.

Step 7.
 Fill in the field Host Name with the server name 
US VPN Server: us.freel2tpvpn.com
               65.60.11.21
UK VPN Server: uk.freel2tpvpn.com
               77.92.87.171
(The Internet address will be different, depending on the package you own) and click Next.

Step 8.
 Check the Add a shortcut to this connection on the desktop option and click Finish.
Step 9. Open the new connection by double clicking on the ibVPN icon availableon the desktop.

Step 10.
 Select Properties and open the Security tab.

Update
Please read. Please check Advanced instead of Require data encryption (disconnect if none). Now select Maxmimum strenght encryption encryption (disconnect if server declines). Click on IPSec Settings button.
Step 12. Check Use pre-shared key "freel2tp" click OK.

Step 13. In the Networking tab select as Type of VPNL2TP IPSec VPN then click OK.

Step 14.
 Fill in your Username (vpn) and Password (freel2tp), this information is available in the Client Area under My Details.
Step 15. Click Connect

choose "Create a new connection"

FREE L2TP CONNECTION

SUMMARY:
Making an L2TP Connection From Windows 2000/XP
PROBLEM OR GOAL:

SOLUTION:

To make an L2TP connection using Windows 2000/XP, perform the following steps:
Step one:  From the Start menu, select Settings, select Network and Dial-up Connections, and then click Make New Connection.

Note: For Windows XP, goto Control Panel and select Network Connections. Then click Create a new connection.

Step two:  From the Network Connection Wizard, click Next.

Step three:  From Network Connection Type, click to select Connect to a private network through the Internet, and then click Next.

Note: For Windows XP, choose Connect to the network at my workplace. Then select Virtual Private Network connection.

Step four:  You may see the Public Network screen at this time. Click to select the dial-up connection that connects you to your ISP. If your physical connection is an Ethernet connection, select Do not dial initial connection. If the physical connection is through an ISP, select Automatically dial this initial connection. Click Next.

Note: For Windows XP, you will be prompted first for a connection name first.

Note: For this example, we used Do not dial the initial connection.
Step five:  From Destination Address, in the Host name or IP address box, enter the IP address or hostname of your Juniper Firewall's Untrust interface, and then click Next.

Note: For this we have used 65.60.11.21, or 77.92.87.171  IP address.
Step six:  From Connection Availability, click to select For all users, and then click Next.

Step seven:  From the Completing the Network Connection Wizard, enter a connection name, and then click Finish.

Note: For Windows XP, the connection name was entered before step 4.

Step eight:  Click Properties.

Step nine:  Click to select the Security tab, click to select Advanced (custom settings), and then click Settings.

Step ten:  From Advanced Security Settings, from the Data encryption drop-down menu, click to select Optional encryption (freel2tp).

Step eleven:  From Logon security, click to select Allow these protocols. Click to select only Unencrypted password (PAP)and Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP). Click to clear any protocols that do not apply.

Step twelve:  Click OK.
Step thirteen:  Click to select the Networking tab. From the Type of VPN server I am calling drop-down menu, click to selectLayer-2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP).

Note: For Windows XP, select L2TP IPSec VPN.

Step fourteen:  Click OK.
Step fifteen:  From Network and Dial-up Connections, double-click the Dial-up Connection.

Step sixteen: Enter your User name and Password.
Note: The User name and Password matches the username and password of the L2TP user configured on the Firewall.

Step seventeen:  User Name= vpn Password= freel2tp Click Connect.
